Palliative Care at Park Ridge Animal Hospital
Supporting pets and their families through every stage of life.
At Park Ridge Animal Hospital, we believe that end-of-life care is not just about managing medical needs – it is about honouring the bond you share with your pet. Our palliative care service is designed to provide comfort, dignity, and compassionate support as pets approach the final stages of life, while walking alongside families as they navigate emotional, practical, and deeply personal decisions.
No two families are the same. Every pet’s journey is unique. We are here to help you make decisions that align with your values, beliefs, and hopes for your pet’s comfort.
Quality of Life Assessments
Sometimes the hardest part is knowing when a pet’s comfort or joy is fading. We offer structured quality-of-life assessments to help families understand their pet’s needs and track changes over time.
These appointments may explore:
- Pain levels and mobility.
- Ability to eat, drink, and rest comfortably.
- Emotional wellbeing and engagement in daily life.
- Frequency of “good days” versus “bad days”.
- What activities still bring joy or connection.
Together, we create a personalised plan focused on comfort, dignity, and what matters most to your pet.
Palliative Care Visits
For pets living with chronic, age-related, or terminal illness, we provide ongoing palliative care tailored to their individual needs. These visits aim to improve comfort and maintain quality of life rather than cure disease.
Care may include:
- Pain and mobility management.
- Medications to reduce nausea, anxiety, or respiratory distress.
- Fluid therapy and nutritional support.
- Gentle home modifications and environmental advice.
- Monitoring progression of disease.
Our goal is to help make each day as comfortable and meaningful as possible.
End-of-Life Planning Visits
For families preparing for end-of-life decisions, we offer dedicated appointments focused on:
- Understanding prognosis and expected changes.
- Discussing personal wishes, beliefs, and cultural considerations.
- Planning ahead to prevent crisis decisions.
- Choosing preferred location, timing, and approach to euthanasia.
- Exploring memorial options and aftercare.
These visits provide space for calm, unhurried conversation — without pressure, judgement, or assumptions.
In-Clinic or In-Home Euthanasia
(“Put to Rest”)
When the time comes to say goodbye, we offer peaceful euthanasia either in our clinic or in your home environment.
In-Clinic
A calm, private space with gentle handling, time to say goodbye, and staff who care deeply.
In-Home
A familiar environment, allowing pets to rest in their favourite spot surrounded by family. This option can be particularly comforting for anxious pets, multi-pet households, or owners who prefer a more personal setting.
Whichever option you choose, our team will ensure a compassionate, dignified, and stress-minimised experience.
